TIMS Information

Nepal Government assigns Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) to implement Trekking Registration Certificate (TRC) now becomes TIMS Registration Required for trekkers.

Nepal’s tourism begins it’s new year, 2008, with a new system called Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS).
Nepal, has been called 'a Trekker's Paradise'. Its high standing mountains, scenic hills and the luxuriant Terai offers some of the most spectacular trekking routes in the world. Passing through the diverse culture and nature, trekking in Nepal is a life-time experience which involves a certain degree of physical risks owing to the rugged topography.
With the distinction of Nepal as a trekking destination and its growing charm, a provision of Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) has been implemented to control illegal trekking operations and ensure safety and security of the trekkers in general trekking areas through the mechanism of Prompt Information Service as and when required .
The past experiences have shown that difficulties have been faced while carrying out rescue operations promptly during the times of accidents and natural calamities. Because of lack of proper record system of trekkers, their exact whereabouts and the information about trekking routes, rescue and search missions used to face difficulties in spotting the trekkers missing.
The provision of Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) has come into force from Jan 01, 2008. Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) have started recording trekkers detail and issuing TIMS Card to trekkers.

The new system allows Nepal Tourism Board to better serve to trekkers in case of emergency and also better maintain records of trekkers in the country.

All trekkers must carry a valid TIMS, a free certificate that is now issued by Nepal Tourism Board and by Nepal Trekking Agents Association.

If you are trekking in Nepal, *PLEASE BE SURE* to get a TIMS Certificate and carry it with you during your trekking and after finishing your trekking take it with you for your best memory in a life. It is assumed that we Asian Travellers Treks & Expedition provide you this certificate making hassle free for you.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) / High Altitude Sickness

Acute Mountain Sickness also known as Altitude Sickness, is the effect of altitude on those who ascend too rapidly to elevations above 3,600 m. Early symptoms include headache, loss of appetite, lethargy, and sleeplessness. Do not ignore these warnings as these are serious symptoms of AMS which can cause even death within a few hours. Being young, strong and fit does not help. Medicine is no substitute for descent. If a doctor is available, he may give medicine and oxygen.
The patient must go down, however, even after treatment. If you are traveling in Khumbu region and Manang, you can contact Khunde, Pheriche & Manang respectively for altitude sickness information. Hospitals are there with good doctors. To avoid altitude sickness you should walk slowly. If you feel exhausted, you have moved too fast or too high. Take time to acclimatize to each gaining altitude and give yourself rest days. If you start to feel unwell, retreat to a lower altitude immediately. It may save your life. The only cure for AMS is to descend immediately to a lower elevation.
We recommend you to be checked by your Physician before trekking and those who are suffering from heart disease, respiratory diseases such as Asthma, emphysema are not advisable to attempt to high altitude treks and any strenuous activity. So, one should be physically fit for trekking.

Nepal Trekking Types

Nepal Camping Trek:

This classic style of trekking are especially conducted in remote areas of Nepal supplying all camping equipments along with the food and employ porters to carry your gear and Sherpa to set up tents where you will be sleeping and well- trained cook will prepare hot meals to serve you. You carry your small backpack with a water bottle, camera and your day clothes. As a guide I take care of everything, I employs the appropriate number of porters to carry all equipment, trekking gear and lead the whole crew.

Tea house/Lodge Trek:

Lodge treks are a less expensive alternative on the more popular routes in the Everest, Annapurna and Langtang areas.
Lodge treks can offer a greater insight in to the lives of the local people and offer more opportunities for meeting fellow travelers. Accommodation is generally of a good standard (by trekking terms) and the food is prepared by the lodge-staff. All meals are included in the trek price.

Village Trek:

We have a range of holidays that complement our main trekking Programme. These are designed to give you an insight into the people and their culture. Where it s possible, we like to use accommodation with a local character not just because it s more interesting, but because it provides direct local benefit. Some involve a few days on an easy trek, combined with an overland tour. The travel on these holidays can still be demanding, to enjoy this trip you certainly need open and positive mind.

Know before trekking

To trek you do not need to be a super athlete nor a mountaineer but a few weeks of training, prior to arriving in Nepal, will enhance your experience. It will not be more enjoyable spending the trip of a lifetime struggling to walk the trails every day when a little sensible preparation before you arrive would make the trails so much more rewarding. So it is important to be in good physical condition before you start your trek and the best way is to do a lot of walking. Try to spend an hour a day on the road. Walk upstairs rather than take a lift, if possible, walk or cycle when you would normally drive or ride a bus, take the dog for a walk. Jogging and aerobics will also hand. Running a few miles most days is probably the best single physical activity, which will hand. It doesn't have to be too complicated. While you are training you can also be breaking in those new trekking boats that may otherwise give you blisters on the first day out on the trail. Those who are planning to climb one of the trekking peaks need to be physically very fit. Please also be mentally prepared for Nepal. It will be good if you try to find out as much as possible about Nepal's customs especially about the particular trek that you have planned before arriving. I am always happy to give you information with updated facts.

Trekking Seasons

trekking in nepalTrekking is possible any time of the year depending on where you are going. The popular seasons are spring and autumn. During winter, trekking is possible at lower altitudes. During the monsoon season, you can trek in the rain shadow areas north of the Himalaya like Mustang, Upper Mustang, and Dolpo. These places are out of reach of the rain clouds because of the high mountains and are unaffected by the monsoon.
December and January are the coldest months with heavy snowfall in the upper hills, crossing high passes at this time can be impossible. February and May are warmer in lower altitude but in high hill can still be very cold and heavy snowfall. In raining season June and July, is just possible for short trekking because of dangerous flooding. From September to November is the most suitable season for trekking as rain is at a minimum, Sky seems clear.

Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Himal TrekThis spectacular camping trek to Mardi Himal follows one of the least trekked routes in the Annapurnas. It is a remote trek at moderate altitudes through pristine forests and delightful villages that takes you further and higher into the mountains than on our Foothills of Nepal trek. From Pokhara we ascend through luxuriant forests of Oak, Magnolia and Rhododendron gaining tantalizing views of Machapuchare and the Annapurnas. The forest abounds with bird life, while the bubbling streams and grassy campsites complete the tranquil setting. From our alpine camps we gain uninterrupted views of Machapuchare. Its sacred, fluted peak looms high above us while the Annapurna range provides a distinctive and spectacular panorama. Trekking higher we enter a rugged world of huge cliffs and tumbling glaciers fed by the snowy flanks of Machapuchare.

On our return we descend through seldom visited Gurung villages, following ever more delightful trails to Pokhara and our flight back to Kathmandu. This trek offers the opportunity to escape Nepal’s tourist trails to venture into the deep forests and roam the high alpine pastures that flank the Annapurna range. The emphasis of the trek is on the forest and wilderness zone of these mountains. Some villages are visited on the last days of the trek and these receive few visitors and retain much of their traditional charm. There is an essence of exploration on this trek. The trails we follow are not well used and sometimes hard to identify.

They give way to the cultivated fields of the villagers, where crops of maize, wheat, rice and millet are grown. Climbing to the ridges of open pasture, we enjoy uninterrupted views of 7937 metre Annapurna II and 7525 metre Annapurna IV and the fishtail peak Machapuchare, considered one of Nepal's most beautiful mountains.
